Anusha - a young vocalist with lots of potential

By Alex P Kurien

ANUSHA Merrin Bobby makes Malayalees proud.

An avid student of western classical music, Anusha continues to add new scores to her bright, fine-tuned musical career.

Once she delved into the nuances of music at a tender age, never did she feel an iota of discord in her career thereafter. With her strong determination and confidence, aided by such a naturally beautiful, appealing and mellifluous voice, she has managed to set her feet on the high pitch serenely.

Anusha’s musical skill is endorsed even by experts of music who are globally renowned. In the recently-held The Art Song Festival 2021 competition, organized by KM Music Conservatory, Chennai, and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London, Anusha was awarded the Best Overall Performer. She was chosen from among 10 finalists.

Aspiring to be a vocalist, Anusha passed BA (Honours) in Music from Middlesex University, London, under the tutelage of Mark Oldfield. (Mark has been widely praised for his vocal and acting skills in a broad range of repertoire. He now uses his experience and knowledge to teach singers and help them prepare for auditions and work on their vocal skills across a range of styles.)

She also holds a Diploma in Music Performance from KM Music Conservatory, Chennai, under the training of Dr Keisha Cook and Dr Cynthia Smith.

At the age of five, she started training in Carnatic music which lasted for five years, followed by choral music by joining the church choir.

Further, she completed Grade 5 ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) in European Classical Music from the Bahrain Music Institute in 2016.

Anusha further honed her craft by participating in masterclasses with great artistes and famous tutors like Benjamin Appl, Patricia Rozario and Mark Troop. After returning to Bahrain due to the pandemic, Anusha has been taking lessons with Indian-born British soprano Patricia Rozario OBE.

Some of her coveted achievements include Finalist in Voices of India National Singing Competition (2018), Quarter Finalist in CS Music Vocal Competition, Chicago, USA, and Best Performer of the Year (2018) at KM Music Conservatory and Chorus member in “La Fedelta Premiata”, conducted by Natalie Murray Beale at the Royal Opera House, Mumbai (2018).

Anusha had also been part of St Andrew’s Kirk Choir, The Manama Singers, The YMCA Bahrain Choir and the Bahrain CSI Parish Choir.

She has now been offered a place at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK, with a scholarship, for a Masters degree programme starting in September 2021.

Besides music, Anusha is a keen baker and also enjoys cooking, travelling and reading.

Anusha’s father Bobby George (Mangalathu, Madappally, Changanacherry) is in-charge/Tours Officer, Emirates Holidays (the leisure wing of Emirates airline), in Bahrain. Her mother Mini Bobby George (Thadeethrayil, Kuriannoor), is a Math teacher at Al Noor International School, Bahrain.
