Tomato prices go up from Rs 10 to Rs 60 in Bengaluru
THE retail price of tomatoes has shot up from Rs 10/Rs 15 a kg to Rs 60 in various districts of Karnataka, especially in Bengaluru, after a supply crunch due to incessant rains.
Traders fear that if the situation continues, the price will be close to Rs 100 in the capital.
The sudden rise in the price is due to a shortage in supply from the surrounding rural areas of Bengaluru and Maharashtra. In September, the maximum price of tomatoes hovered around Rs 15 per kg.
